Bettering your workflow with Photojunction
By all means, integrate Photojunction with other applications if you want, but you'll be surprised how many of your workflow challenges PJ addresses. What really really counts in business is sales, profits and productivity. You can use PJ to organise and display your images; help make the sale; design albums efficiently and creatively; interface with Photoshop; output your album pages for printing; create slideshows and more.
"PJ on rails:" The album design workflow we describe below is typical, but you can mix things up to suit your particular requirements. You'll see the stages in the process, and where you're up to, at the top of the album-planning window. The "stations" vary depending on the details of your album and the services you've chosen. They're buttons, and you can click them to navigate back and forth.
STEP 1: SET UP A NEW PROJECT; IMPORT & ORGANISE IMAGES
If necessary, save your RAW files as JPGs, TIFs or PSDs before importing them. After importing the images, sort them into Groups if you want to.
You can import folders to PJ if you prefer to pre-sort your images in a third-party application.
STEP 2: PRESENT THEM TO YOUR CLIENTS
Slideshows; proof sheets; review; collection builder; pre-design.
STEP 3: BUILD "COLLECTIONS"
The heart of the sales process is selecting images with your clients for their albums and other photographic products.
STEP 4: SET UP THE ALBUM
Chose an album vendor and specify the details for the album you want.
You may also need to specify the services you want (eg print and assemble). For Queensberry, check out the available options on our website or against your swatch book and page sampler. If your vendor isn't listed, choose Remix DIY and enter the page dimensions yourself.
STEP 5: DESIGN THE ALBUM
Design freestyle or from templates - your choice. Many studios pre-design to show clients the album they
If you're using Queensberry, Photojunction steps you through designing covers, title pages etc, and gathers all the information necessary to submit a valid album order. Queensberry also offers a design service if you'd rather not get involved in the nitty-gritty of album design.
STEP 6: EXPORT THE HIGH-RES FILES
Exporting your cropped, sized image and page layout files for printing is automated. Most users choose Photojunction's Photoshop scripting option*. Image and layout warnings head off most problems before they start.
Photojunction Lab Settings help ensure your files comply with your lab's requirements (you can set up your own lab settings if necessary).
*Queensberry's "Export Print and Assemble" service allows those who are editing in RAW (eg with Lightroom or Aperture) to upload the high-res files to
STEP 7: EDIT YOUR LAYOUTS WITH PHOTOSHOP
Many people want to work on the layout files before printing - colour-correction, creative and corrective artwork etc. Play safe by opening the files from within Photojunction - this eliminates mistakes that can happen due to working on the wrong file version, renaming or moving files etc.
Once you're finished, your files should be ready for printing. However, always open and review your print files before sending them to the lab. Unless you're using Queensberry this is the last stage of the Photojunction workflow.
STEP 8: SEND ORDER
If you're using Queensberry, Photojunction steps up a gear.
Before you start, the Problem Reporter (PJ Nana!) will notify you of any issues that could delay your album - missing information, unresolved problems etc. The goal is to ensure that your order is complete, accurate and valid before you upload it.
After any problems are sorted you'll be ready to review your order details, add any special instructions or support files and then hit "Send Order".
Photojunction will automatically bundle up all the order and print files that Queensberry will need to make your album, and upload everything to us by FTP. There's no need to worry about "what Queensberry needs" - it's automated.
The "Resume" function means you won't need to start again if your upload link fails, and Photojunction will retain a complete history of all the work you upload.
